Your National #D3Wrestling Wrestler of the Week… Jacob Reed, first-year out of Ohio Northern University!
In a week that had many tremendous candidates, Reed stood out! Not only did he have signature wins over ranked opponents, he also went unblemished, which is something that not every nominee can attest to. Let’s look at Reed’s weekend and overall body of work:
Competing at the Budd Whitehill Duals, Reed went 4-0 on the weekend and 5-0 this week in competition. He downed NWCA #12 James Rodriguez (Castleton), NWCA #13 Travis Jones (Ithaca), and former NCAA All-American, Levi Engelman (Ferrum). He also notched wins over competitors from Mount St. Joseph’s and York. His efforts also helped guide ONU to the team title at the Budd Whitehill Duals.
Reed is 25-1 on the season and ranked fourteenth by the NWCA, but 7th by D3Wrestling’s BAMF Rankings. His weekend may have just put the whole nation on notice…
Other strong candidates we considered were Kalyn Jahn of UW-La Crosse who went 4-0 with 4 pins. Cody Baldridge of North Central also went 4-0 this weekend and upset BAMF #1 Isaac Lahr (UW-La Crosse). Jack Heldt of Wabash also defeated BAMF #1 Isaac Lahr as well as NWCA #4 Gabe Zierden (Concordia Moorhead).
