CGA, who jumped from 15th to 9th in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, knocked off regional rival, Johnson & Wales by a score of 24-14 last Friday evening. For the Bears, it was their first win over JWU in 20 years.
Coast Guard won 6 of the 10 bouts, with bonus points coming at 125lbs, 149lbs, and 184lbs. JWU did have 174lbs and 285lbs to counter. The dual, which began at 174lbs, was decided in the 157lb bout when Joe Chapman (CGA) secured a takedown over Tyler Albis (JWU) with under 10 seconds to go in the bout. Chapman held on to win 4-3.
This was an exciting back and forth battle between the two premiere programs, right now, in the Northeast. JWU and CGA could be on a collision course to meet at least once more in their Conference Duals, and could potentially hit at the NWCA National Duals in January. If every match was as exciting as this one, sign us up for a few more rounds!
CGA improves to 2-0 on the season. They are back in action next at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, KY on January 6th & 7th.
